How Much?
Value & Pricing
We’re very aware of the 'Value' question when it comes to buying clothes. Everyone has a different reason and a different budget.
We know that we’re neither the cheapest, nor the most expensive in our space.
We also know that our clothing range is quite niche. (Towelling Lifestyle Beachwear is not a busy phrase in Google’s search engine!)
But it is clothing that many people really like to wear and we believe we make the best garments we can for a price that is sustainable.
For These Reasons ...
We set out to design styles that would stand up to fashion trends, and could be happily worn year after year, season after season. Cotton towelling is our fabric of choice because we believe it offers a look and an experience that is eye catching, practical and feels great.
Our pricing reflects our choice to:-
- Source the best fabric – Our towelling comes from Italy. It’s beautifully woven in a comfortable weight and we can dye to order.
- Manufacture in England – It’s our patch. We know our suppliers and our makers who are paid well for well made garments.
- Make up in small batches – It reduces the stock we carry and keeps us fresh.
- Use sustainable materials and systems where possible.
- Continuously evolve our collection - We introduce new styles and variations when they’ve been tested and we know they’re ready.
This means that we can never complete on price with brands that manufacture abroad, in much larger quantities, using cheaper fabrics and practices.
So, Price v Value?
Our value equation is based on the principle that the most sustainable garment you own is generally the one you use the longest.
I made my first towelling dress (an early Emerson) in 2008 and I never tire of wearing it. At the time of writing, that was 14 years ago. Some of the threads are starting to wear (it was vintage fabric) but it's still comfy, wonderfully relaxed and brings back many great memories. All So English garments are made to last just as long.
On the subject of wear, (though it’s not widely promoted on our site as yet), we will accept back any of our products for recycling and give you 25% off your next purchase in return.
And, with a nod to brand pioneers like Patagonia and Bottega Veneta, we will repair accidental damage or provide you with replacement materials should you want to leave your own mark.
Ultimately, we’re on a journey to produce clothing that you’ll value and want to wear but So English is only a sustainable business if you think our clothes are worth buying.
Price may be the defining factor for many but if you have the choice, we hope you’ll join us.
